So a few days ago I went out to pick up my Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Collectors Edition and from then on I have not been able to put the game down! Almost 50 hours into the game and still I am barely at caravan rank 9 quests! Not even G rank yet and the monsters have spiked in difficulty which is a good thing! Most people are using MH4U as their first step into the Monster Hunter universe and some are still on the ropes about whether or not they should get into the game and some are wondering how do people play Monster Hunter! Well if you must know...look at the image below! :)
With that I basically sum up why you should get into the game NOW! Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate does a great job of easing a new player into the game by helping them understand certain mechanics such as combinations, carving, making well done steak, and creating armors and weapons! As well as having notes on each weapons different combos that are really useful for anyone trying out the two new weapon types: Charge Blade and Insect Glaive!
Not to mention that this game also has something the previous game did not...ONLINE PLAY! I personally have not experienced any lag while playing online and I have only heard of people experiencing latency issues through local play which is strange! This means that quests you can't solo on offline mode can be done with friends or random players simply by joining an open gathering hall!
A new mechanic has also been added called mounting which allows a player to well...mount...a monster! You do this by jumping off ledges and attacking it! If you knock it over you may mount it automatically and begin a mini game that has you stabbing at it and then holding on for dear life as the monster begins to try to shake you off! This being said I believe any beginners and new players to mounting should see this video for educational purposes!
Now that that is out of the way I would also like to say that MH4U has sold 3 MILLION copies in EU and NA and that means that you will always have someone to join or join you online! Pretty handy if you are stuck on a certain quest or just want to farm a certain quest with a group to make things easier! Everyone likes easy...sometimes!
Also for people that like to have a variety of monsters to hunt you'll be happy to know that MH4U has a total of 98 monsters for you to stab, bash, shoot, slice, mount, trap, and explode! This is by far the most from the previous games and 23 of those are SMALL monsters meaning that 75 are all large wyverns or elder dragons! Interesting huh?
That guy above is a freaking HUGE monster you will eventually hunt! So...yeah you will have to deal with some insanely big monsters! Which is nice from time to time eh? :D
The controls for this game are pretty nice and with the circle pad pro controlling the camera is simple. For melee fighters you can usually live without the circle pad pro but ranged classes will find that moving the camera around to aim and such is a bit of a hassle without it!
One last thing I would like to cover are the felynes or "Palicoes" that follow you around! So far you can have a maximum of 30(with island extension) and can have 2 following you, your main palico and your secondary one! They can heal you,set bombs around the wyvern, attack, steal the wyverns stamina, and even steal items from it! Add onto that the fact that they each get their own sets to give them attack and defense boosts as well as them leveling up to get stronger AND being able to do a combo attack where they team up to do some amazing things such as summoning a tank to blast at the monster or playing horns together to heal you and boost your stamina and health up! They are life savers and play better than the shakalakas from MH3U! CAT LOVERS THIS IS FOR YOU!
Yes they will also have costumes from different games. Currently announced are: Sonic,Dante,Mario,Luigi,Megaman, and there will probably be way more! So for anyone looking to do some pet leveling in game this will probably get your interest! I highly recommend new and returning players to get this game as I GUARANTEE you will enjoy it! The demo should still be on the nintendo store so feel free to check that out if you are still unsure! :)
